Newly designed advanced scuba reel by Third Reefers brings spring loaded control to your descent to the reef, penetration to a wreck, or exploration into a new branch of the cave system. Expertly crafted out of a heavy gauge aluminum frame, high density polyethylene spool and stainless steel hardware, this reel will last for years of undersea exploration. Easy control of line release is the huge advantage of this innovative spring loaded design. With a gentle squeeze of the handle during descent, line feeds off the spool in a controlled fashion and with release of the pressure on the handle the spool rapidly and securely locks preventing free spooling and line tangles. Each spool comes with 300 feet of line which can be attached to your hardware of choice depending on the specific use. The heavy duty lobster clasp on the side of the frame allows for daisy chaining reels for cave and wreck exploration or for attachment to your BCD via a floating line for your drift dives.
I had a problem with 2 reels. Customer service reached out to me to remedy the issues. A few days later I received my reels back and they are spot-on AWESOME! Well done Third Reefers! Well done!
I’ve had to fix 2 of these reels. The handles don’t spin as they should and the reel spools are too tight. With some minor modifications your reels would be great. They are just “ok” as is.
Great design overall with a few shortcuts: non-solid spool that can catch a line between a core and a flange, non-spinning handle, line not attached to the spool, free-spooling, and spool lock sometimes getting stuck without locking the spool. It's perfect after fixing via
3D-printed solid spool with a start hole, adding a spinning handle and a spring washer to prevent free-spooling, and adding a piece of PTFE between the frame and locking handle.
Solid reel with smooth operation.
Had one in the water yesterday. Worked well and identical to the tried and true Manta reels our team used / use. One critique is that the knob and spool are one piece. It would be great if the knob was independently attached to the spool so it wouldn’t spin in your hand when reeling in. Minor detail but different than what I’m used to
